This Space won a competitive tender to partner with AGL to create, organise and manage a year long celebration of the company’s 175th anniversary, culminating in a VIP gala event. We designed an event that would bring together Australia’s leading ASX listed companies and VIPs for a black tie gala event that celebrated the beginnings of the company in 1837 through to present day.
We leant in to engage every medium we could to do so, from dance to animation, water projection and visual representations through food and costume.

Commissioned to celebrate AGL’s 175th anniversary and conclude a year-long activation program, This Space created an immersive experience that focused on the company’s rich history and future vision rather than overt brand promotion. Extensive archival research informed a series of theatrical storytelling moments, including a life-sized recreation of AGL’s first George Street shopfront, a custom animated film charting the company’s evolution, and restored historic television commercials reimagined through live performance.
Demonstrating AGL’s commitment to innovation, the animated film was projected onto a 20-metre-wide water screen in Sydney Harbour. Delivered by a team of more than 70 personnel, the event was praised by the Botanic Gardens Trust for its exceptional site management and successfully left guests with a lasting understanding of AGL’s 175-year legacy.
